Since you have light furniture, you could go with darker colors and it wouldn't overwhelm the room. The pink/mocha brown colors are popular right now and are a great feminine look. If you like the brown idea but not the pink, the robins egg blue color with brown are really pretty and popular right now.

A good idea though, is to find something in your room that you really like or gravitate toward and go with designing your room around your one ';inspiration piece';. Good luck.
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think ';independent gold'; (# 6401) might be a good choice.

You can take a photo of your house %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions %26amp; for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
I saw a really cool paint technique once... wallpaper the main wall in your room (the one your beds against) with textured wallpaper and paint over the wallpaper, it looks classy and elegant, it was dark purple and gorgeous! And since you probably won't redecorate before you move out, you should think ahead of a more mature room. trust me, you wont want a girlie teenage room in two years.
