Does the primer color effect the color paint applied afterwards?

Okay, so I'm fixing up my truck. I'm sanding it down and I'm almost ready to primer it and afterwards I want to paint it SI Blue.

Then I remember a family member of mine said he primered his car a certain color. And when he when he painted it it came out a differnet shade of blue. He said it was because of the primer color he picked.

Any opinions would help.Does the primer color effect the color paint applied afterwards?
the lighter the primer the lighter the top paint will look and the darker the primer the darker the paint. color also effects the tint of the paint. You want blue so go with white primer and it will look like glass. go with black and it will be glossy dark blue. go with green and it will have a darker blue than white.

with a hint of purpleDoes the primer color effect the color paint applied afterwards?
I'm a professional painter. No,the primer won't affect the final color provided that the proper amount of color coat is applied.Sometimes when not enough color is applied the primer will cause the final product to be too light or dark. This is something we try hard to avoid. Some colors cover more easily than others and will require more or less top coats.
Yes, it does affect the color. For blue, you should use a gray primer, unless you want it to be slightly darker, use black. if you want it to appear lighter, use white.
